Pandharpur Wari is an 800 year old tradition kept alive in Maharashtra, India. Warkaris (devotees) embark on a 21 day pilgrimage to Pandharpur to honor the deity Vithoba or Vitthal. It involves carrying the paduka (holy footwear) of a saint in a palkhi (palanquin), most notably of Sant (saint) Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj , from their respective shrines to Pandharpur. Many pilgrims join this procession on foot. Warkari is a Marathi term which means "one who performs the wari” or pilgrimage.
