Discover the beauty of the Champa Baoli at Mandu in the state of Madhya Pradesh which reveals the latent potentials of ancient Indian structural design. Stepwell built during the reign of the Sultans of Malwa and part of the royal Jahaz Mahal complex, this is also known as the Champa scent stepwell. How it was constructed – with numerous layers and deep steps– this architectural creation was used as a stepwell and a source of water, more importantly, it provided people with a place in which they could escape the heat during the summer. The fact that it is a multi-storied building had gracefully designed arches, steps which were symmetrical and underground chambers that kept the water cool adding to the ambience. It is believed that the cool breeze from the Baoli was aromatic, thus enhancing on the legend.
