Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is a pleasant and quite birding as well as a natural haven existing in Panjim, Goa. This sanctuary observed in honor of the famous bird specialist Dr.Salim Ali is situated at Chorao island off the western extremity of the Mandovi River. Trek through the dense and thick Mangrove forests where many bird varieties are seen; the kingfisher, the egret, cormorant, and the Black Bittern etc. It also needs other wild animals including the flying foxes, jackals and crocodiles of which the sanctuary provided for. It is recommended that tourists go to the sanctuary early in the morning mainly because of the beautiful songs of birds and especially the sight of birds going about their natural activities. An well maintained walkway and a watchtower are good assets for bird watching and taking photographs. A mere ferry ride away from Ribandar this sanctuary is a must-visit for anyone who wants to explore the real Goa in its all its bio-diversity and splendor.
