The legends of the temple are as below: how Bhagwan Ganesh got the wish to give a jewel Chintamani for his devotee the sage Kapila by defeating the greedy king Gana and how he allayed the disturbed mind of the god Brahma who meditated on him in Theur. This temple is related to the Ganapatya saint Morya Gosavi who beholds from the period 13-17 AD. On the one hand, according to ancient legends, the temple existed from time immemorial, on the other hand, nowadays’ the shape of the temple was constructed by him or by his heir. The Chintamani Temple was also a religious centre of attraction to the Peshwa rulers more so in Madhavrao I (1745–1772) since he added a touch on the structural design of this temple.
