The Delhi Darwaza forms the entrance gate of this fort and has been made sturdy to take enemy attacks. Ruins of the royal palace, including the Diwan-e-Aam, or the public audience hall, and remains of the ground floor of existing buildings give one a view of how the royals lived. Gardens and fountains present inside the complex enhance its beauty and make it serene. One of the main reasons Shaniwar Wada is so famous is its delicately intricate wooden architecture, with many beautifully carved pillars, graceful arches, and varieties of intricate latticework. Seven bastions and strong walls are testimony to its strategic importance in the past.
