Description
The Central Group of Monuments in Mandu, a city located in central India, state of Madhya Pradesh, is one of the most beautiful places which still preserves the architectural masterpieces of the Malwa Sultanate. This is a world heritage site that has architectural master pieces like Jami Masjid, Hoshang Shah’s Tomb, Ashrafi Mahal and more some of them represent a Hindu style and Islamic style.
Jami Masjid, Mandu Jami Masjid is perhaps one of the largest mosques in India and seems to have been modeled on the great mosque of the Umayyads in Damascus. It has a large open yard, a spacious hall for prayers with many numbers of domes in it and the designing of the hall which shows the architectural beauty of that period. Hoshang Shah's Tomb This is one of the reasons why Hoshang Shah’s Tomb is counted as India’s first marble mausoleum and precursor to the Tajmahal. The style of architecture of this tomb can be described as peculiar; it was constructed for the Sultan of Malwa, and near the entrance there are marble screens carved and painted in amazing detail, the dome is also very intricate, and the façade features beautiful latticework. Ashrafi Mahal Ashrafi Mahal which was built as a place to construct a madarsa or an Islamic school and later as a victory pillar also forms part of the Mandu’s history now. However, the present structure is in ruins but the architectural shrewdness of the Malwa dynasty can be well studied from the high rising pillars and some remnants of an unfulfilled dream.
